The preparedness drill conducted by EDA THESS was completed successfully, involved in dealing with possible consequences of seismic activity in the Magnesia Region.
According to the exercise scenario, a 6.2R intensity earthquake occurred on Monday 18/11/2019 at 11:05 am in the area of Pagasitic Gulf, 5km from Volos. Due to the seismic activity, communication (mobiles and fixed phones) was interrupted for 30 minutes, which was realized by Tetras and satellite devices. The Crisis Management Team responded immediately, headed by the General Manager of the Company, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras, and all of the units of EDA THESS mobilized to deal with the incidents in the wider area.

It was decided to evacuate EDA THESS’ offices in Volos immediately. The crisis was managed by the MOBILE CRISIS MANAGEMENT UNIT which was the coordinating center to communicate with public bodies, external partners and Company’s technicians via tetras and satellite devices, in order to repair any network damage.

The mobilization of EDA THESS started with the Emergency Intervention Team’s activation to deal with the incidents which were classified in state of GENERAL CRISIS due to the cruciality of the events.
As part of the drill, EDA THESS communicated with the Authorities, the local bodies, the Security Bodies, the Shareholders and the consumers and cooperated with the Police Directorate of Magnesia, the Fire Service of Magnesia and the Civil Protection of the Municipality of Volos. Magnesia Vice Regional Governor, Mrs. Dorothea Kolyndrini, congratulated the General Manager of EDA THESS, Mr. Leonidas Bakouras on the Company’s continued preparedness in crisis scenarios and emphasized that the exercise success transmits a sense of security to the citizens of Volos.
